I first reviewed Brain Sensei with free review access and liked how different it felt from slide-heavy courses. Since then, the course has been rebuilt from the ground up. The modules, the question bank, and even the teaching style have changed.
So is it still worth your money? Short answer: yes, for most self-paced learners who want their 35 contact hours and a solid simulator in one purchase. But it is not the right fit for everyone.
Below, I cover what changed, what you get, what it costs, and who should pick something else.

What is Brain Sensei PMP?
Brain Sensei PMP is an online project management training program built to help you prepare for the PMP exam. It is self-paced. You study when you want, on a laptop, tablet, or phone.
The course gives you the 35 contact hours PMI requires before you can apply for the PMP exam. It also includes a full exam simulator, so you do not need to buy a separate question bank.
Brain Sensei launched in 2013. Today it sells PMP, CAPM, and PMI-ACP courses, plus exam simulators and PDU bundles for people who already hold a certification.

Who Founded Brain Sensei?
Brain Sensei was founded by Dr. John Estrella and Chris Stafford.
John holds a PhD, PMP, and CMC designations. He founded Agilitek Corporation and received a PMI Educational Foundation scholarship for his doctoral studies. Chris holds the PMP and an MBA, and has more than 20 years of project management experience.
Both founders went through PMP prep themselves. They felt most courses were written for a stiff “corporate” audience, so they set out to make prep less dull. That idea still shapes the product today.
What Changed in Brain Sensei for the 2026-27 PMP Exam?
This is the most important update since my first review. Brain Sensei says it redid all course content and practice questions for the new exam. Here is what that means in practice.
1. The structure now follows the exam domains. The old course followed the five process groups: Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring and Controlling, and Closing. The new course has 26 modules grouped under the three exam domains: People, Process, and Business Environment.
2. The question bank grew. The old simulator had about 1,500 questions. The standard course now has more than 2,200.
3. The story-driven style is no longer the headline. The earlier version taught through an animated story set in feudal Japan. The current PMP product page describes “interactive content” and does not mention the storyline. If the story was the main reason you wanted Brain Sensei, check the free preview first.
4. There is a new AI-powered option. You can now buy a version with an AI instructor that speaks lessons aloud. You can interrupt it, ask questions, and request examples. I compare both versions further down.
In my view, the restructure matters more than the AI feature. A course organized by exam domain makes it much easier to see where you are weak.
How the Course Maps to the 2026 PMP Exam Content Outline
The PMP exam still has three domains, but their weight has shifted a lot. According to PMI’s page on the updated PMP exam, Business Environment grew from 8% to 26% of the exam, while People and Process now carry 33% and 41%.
Here is how Brain Sensei’s modules line up with those domains.

Notice something? Risk Management now sits under Business Environment, not Process. In my experience teaching PMP aspirants, candidates often under-prepare for Business Environment because it used to be such a small slice. With a quarter of the exam now in that domain, you cannot treat it as an afterthought.
The new exam no longer teaches predictive, agile, and hybrid approaches as separate topics. They show up across all three domains. Brain Sensei now covers agile and hybrid practices inside the domain modules instead of a standalone Agile module.
A Quick Note on PMI’s December 2026 Training Rule
PMI is changing how live training hours count. From December 1, 2026, hours earned in a live class (virtual or in person) will only count if an Authorized Training Partner, a China REP, or an eligible academic program delivers it.
Self-paced courses are not affected. You can still take an on-demand course from any provider. Brain Sensei’s standard and AI-powered PMP courses are both self-paced, so their 35 contact hours stay valid. Any training you finish before December 1, 2026 also remains eligible under the current rules.
If you are considering any live online class from any provider, confirm the provider’s ATP status before you pay.

Brain Sensei markets its standard course as an all-in-one package. Based on the official Brain Sensei PMP course page, here is what you get.

I value the simulator most. Many candidates buy a cheap course for the contact hours and then pay again for a simulator. Here, both come in one package.
Brain Sensei also claims a 99.6% first-time pass rate. Treat that number as a vendor claim. Brain Sensei doesn’t publish how it measures it, and PMI doesn’t publish pass rates.
My Experience with Brain Sensei
When I tested Brain Sensei with free review access, three things stood out.
First, navigation was easy. From the dashboard, you click “Go to My Course,” then launch the PMP course. Your progress shows clearly, module by module.
Second, the course does not let you coast. You had to watch at least 80% of each lesson before it was marked complete. You also had to interact with exercises to move forward. That felt strict at first. Later, I saw it as a strength because it stops you from “finishing” lessons you did not really study.
Third, the analytics helped. I could see which areas I had finished and where I scored low.
Those notes come from the course’s earlier version. The rebuilt version uses a new structure, so some screens will look different. The core approach, interactive lessons followed by assessments, appears unchanged.

Which plan saves more? Do the math on your timeline. If you will finish in two months, the monthly plan costs about $198. If you need four months or more, the annual plan is cheaper, especially at the promotional price.
Remember that the course price does not include the PMP exam fee you pay PMI.

Refund Policy and Pass Guarantee
Brain Sensei offers a 30-day refund. There is a catch: the refund only applies if you have started no more than one practice exam. On monthly plans, only the first payment is refundable.
The pass guarantee also has conditions, which are set out in Brain Sensei’s terms. Read them before you rely on the guarantee.
I will be honest: I don’t recommend choosing any course mainly because of a pass guarantee. Content quality, an exam simulator, and your own study discipline matter far more.

Both versions cover the same 26 modules and give you 35 contact hours. The difference is how you learn.

My take: the standard course is the better value for most candidates. It has the bigger question bank. Pick the AI version only if you learn best by talking concepts through and can use the audio during commutes or walks.

Who Should Choose Brain Sensei?
Brain Sensei fits well if you:
- Prefer self-paced study and can stick to a schedule without a live instructor.
- Want contact hours and a simulator from one provider.
- Learn better through interaction than through long video lectures.
- Plan to sit the exam within 12 months.
It may not suit you if you need a live instructor for accountability or prefer reading-based prep, such as a study guide and question bank.
Is It Useful for CAPM or PMI-ACP?
This review covers the PMP course only. Brain Sensei sells separate CAPM and PMI-ACP courses and simulators, so do not buy the PMP course for those exams.
Here is how this review applies by goal:
- PMP exam preparation: Directly relevant.
- CAPM exam preparation: Partly relevant. The concepts overlap, but you need Brain Sensei’s CAPM course to meet the 23 contact-hour requirement.
- PMI-ACP exam preparation: Limited. Brain Sensei has a separate PMI-ACP course.
- General project management practice: Useful as a structured refresher, though it is built around the exam.
How to Use Brain Sensei: A 6-Week Study Plan
A course only works if you use it well. Here is a simple plan for someone who can study about 8 to 10 hours per week.
- Week 1: Take the free preview, then start the People modules. Finish 4 modules.
- Week 2: Complete the People domain. Review every knowledge assessment you scored low on.
- Week 3: Work through the Process modules. Spend extra time on Value-Based Delivery and Financial Management.
- Week 4: Finish Process and start Business Environment. Do not rush this domain.
- Week 5: Complete Business Environment. Take your first 180-question mock exam under timed conditions.
- Week 6: Review weak areas, take two more full mocks, then use unlimited exams on your weakest domain.
Once you finish the course, download your contact hours certificate and submit your PMP application. PMI may audit it, so keep the certificate safe.
Common Mistakes to Avoid with Self-Paced PMP Prep
- Taking mock exams too early. Your score will be low and may hurt your confidence. Finish at least one full pass through the modules first.
- Skipping Business Environment. It is now about a quarter of the exam.
- Memorizing answers. Unlimited exams can repeat questions. If you recognize an answer, ask yourself why it is right.
- Starting a second practice exam within 30 days if you are unsure about the course. That can void the refund.
- Letting access expire. Set a target exam date before you buy the annual plan.
Brain Sensei PMP Alternatives
No course fits every learner. Here are two options worth knowing.
PM Sprout
PM Sprout is a 35-contact-hour PMP training program. It was co-developed with PMSimplify, a PMI Authorized Training Partner. Its lessons are short and focused, and the course is fully online.
Full disclosure: I run PM Sprout, so weigh my view accordingly. I suggest it for candidates who want concise, no-fluff lessons and prefer a smaller platform.
What About PM PrepCast?
My original review compared Brain Sensei with PM PrepCast. That comparison no longer helps new buyers. Its publisher has announced that PM PrepCast will close, and all access ends on December 4, 2026.
If you planned to buy PrepCast, choose a provider that will still support you through your exam date.

It has trade-offs. The famous storyline is no longer the selling point, refunds come with conditions, and annual access can run out if your plans change.
